One of the first questions I ask new clients is: where do you want to shoot? And a lot of people say, “I don’t know — you’re the expert!” Which I love, because I genuinely enjoy helping people figure this out.
Here in Orange County, we’re incredibly lucky. We have stunning natural environments — the coastline, gorgeous parks, beautiful urban streetscapes — and also easy access to clean, controlled studio environments. Both have their advantages, and the right choice really depends on your industry, your personal brand, and the feeling you want to convey.
Studio headshots are ideal when: you want a clean, classic, timeless look. The plain or subtly textured background keeps all the attention on you, which works perfectly for fields like law, finance, medicine, and corporate leadership. Studio shots are also incredibly consistent — great for teams where everyone needs to look cohesive.
On-location headshots work beautifully when: you want warmth, personality, and a sense of place. Real estate agents often do really well with lifestyle shots that show them in the neighborhoods they serve. Entrepreneurs and creatives often prefer the energy and authenticity of an outdoor shoot. Orange County has no shortage of beautiful locations — from the cliffs of Laguna Beach to the clean architectural lines of downtown Irvine.
Many of my clients opt for a hybrid approach — we’ll do some clean studio-style shots first, then head outside for a more relaxed, natural-light look. This gives you variety and flexibility for different platforms and purposes.
