A lot of photographers can take a decent headshot. Put someone in front of a clean background, get the lighting right, snap a few frames. Done. But if you’ve ever scrolled through LinkedIn or a company website and found yourself drawn to one particular photo — that’s what a great headshot does.

It comes down to connection. A truly great headshot makes the viewer feel like they already know you a little bit. There’s warmth, confidence, and authenticity coming through the image. You can’t fake that — it has to be captured in the moment.
That’s why, in my sessions here in Orange County, I spend a lot of time just talking with my clients before I even pick up the camera. We chat about what they do, what they love about their work, maybe something funny that happened at the office last week. By the time we start shooting, you’ve forgotten to be nervous, and that’s when the magic happens.
Southern California has this incredible energy. People here are driven, ambitious, and also genuinely warm and personable. The best headshots I’ve taken reflect exactly that — someone who means business but is also someone you’d actually want to grab coffee with.
The technical stuff matters too, of course. Proper lighting that’s flattering without being flat, a background that complements rather than competes, sharp focus on the eyes (always the eyes). These are non-negotiables for me.
But the soul of the image — the thing that makes someone click on your profile or call you back — that comes from getting you comfortable, getting you to relax, and capturing who you actually are.
